Las Vegas, Nevada – The Grand Canyon – Things to Do

When visiting the Grand Canyon, which is located just outside Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, there are a wide varieties of activities available to be done. Besides regular sightseeing, the Grand Canyon also has some other outdoor activities. For instance, running, hiking and whitewater rafting are particularly popular. Some different ways of exploring the canyon floor are by foot, boat, raft, and even by muleback. Officials don’t recommend that would-be travelers hike down to the river and then back in a days time. The change in elevation and the Nevada heat create conditions that make this a very health risky one day trip.

The canyon has some nice locations for camping. There are designated campgrounds and reservations that are highly rated.

Visitors also have the option of having a very vertical and aerial perspective of the canyon. Las Vegas and Phoenix offer helicopters and small planes that flyover the canyon. These tours are highly recommended for visitors who wish to see the canyon but don’t want to do all the hiking. Also by flying over the canyons, one can see more of the canyons and see it from many angles. Some helicopter tours land in the canyons and offer visitors the option of hiking around. These types of tours start at about $85 USD.

Some recommended spots for great views are: Lipan Point on the South Rim, and the most memorable view is from Toroweap Overlook, which is approximately 3000 feet above the Colorado River. These two spots offer great photo opportunities and will give any visitor great visual memories for the rest of their lives.
